Tell us about your PROGRAM
Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is a 638-bed tertiary care, academic, and research hospital located in the northwestern suburban region of Chicago, IL, recognized by IDSA as a Center of Excellence for Antimicrobial Stewardship. The training site includes Advocate Children's Hospital and is part of Advocate Health system, the third largest non-profit integrated health system in the US.
What makes your program UNIQUE?
Unique offerings of the PGY2 at Advocate Lutheran include both adult and pediatric infectious diseases training to develop a well-rounded graduate. Additionally, the residency provides a high-level focus on multi-drug resistant and difficult to treat infections with limited treatment options.
What opportunities are there for RESEARCH and QUALITY IMPROVEMENT in your program?
Each year, our residents complete a research project that addresses a gap in current ID literature with a goal of presenting this research at a national conference and pursuing publication.
What QUALITIES are you looking for in a successful trainee?
In a successful trainee, we are looking for a hard-working, dedicated, motivated, and organized resident. If a resident is willing to put in the work, we would be honored to train them.
What CAREER paths have past trainees pursued, and how does your program support trainees in finding job opportunities?
Post PGY2, our residents have historically pursued Infectious Diseases specialist positions or ID Fellowship. Our program supports trainees in finding jobs by providing mock interviews and a large network of ID pharmacists, given the size of our organization.
MAD-ID Training Program Highlight
This series highlights ID pharmacy training programs, including PGY2 ID residency and ID fellowship programs that send trainees to the MAD-ID Annual Meeting. We provide an opportunity for program directors to give insights into their offerings that mean most to prospective trainees.
