Tell us about your PROGRAM

UTMB Health PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency is a 52-week pharmacy specialty-training program designed to contribute to the development of infectious diseases clinical pharmacists. It provides residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings.

What makes your program UNIQUE?

UTMB Health’s distinctive Gulf Coast location provides exposure to a diverse patient population not commonly seen at other institutions, including immunocompromised and incarcerated individuals, a flourishing group of preceptors, and a system-wide stewardship program.

What opportunities are there for RESEARCH and QUALITY IMPROVEMENT in your program?

We offer a variety of research opportunities that allow for engagement with our ID residents including studies such as the FIRST Trial and TUNDRA as well as major research projects, MUE, guideline/protocol development, and formulary management.

What QUALITIES are you looking for in a successful trainee?

We are seeking a resident who has a passion for infectious diseases, and is motivated, eager to learn, and dedicated to patient care.

What CAREER paths have past trainees pursued and how does your program support trainees in finding job opportunities?

All of our past resident have obtained infectious diseases/antimicrobial stewardship clinical roles in large health-systems. Along-side a strong clinical foundation, we provide opportunities for our learners to build their network in the Greater Houston area.
