Tell us about your PROGRAM
The research fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison provides training in translational research in antibiotic pharmacokinetics / pharmacodynamics, immunology, and microbiology.
What makes your program UNIQUE?
The University of Wisconsin-Madison and the School of Pharmacy is a top public institution with a variety of resources for trainees to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary and impactful research in infectious diseases. Trainees obtain an appointment at a top academic hospital (UW Health) to perform clinical research and continue practice if desired, and they can take classes toward Master's degree in Clinical Investigation, Public Health, or other fields.
What opportunities are there for RESEARCH and QUALITY IMPROVEMENT in your program?
The fellowship provides research training in the basic laboratory techniques and clinical investigation related to the disciplines in antibiotic pharmacology described in the program information above. Trainees have opportunities to present research at national/international meetings, network/collaborate with interdisciplinary researchers, and publish in infectious diseases focused areas.
What QUALITIES are you looking for in a successful trainee?
Trainees should have a strong foundation in pharmacy practice (PGY1), with preference to those trained in infectious diseases (PGY2). The fellowship seeks trainees who are interested in research and have strong skills in critical thinking, self-motivation, adaptability, teamwork, and professionalism.
What CAREER paths have past trainees pursued and how does your program support trainees in finding job opportunities?
All trainees completing this fellowship have successfully achieved employment in a variety of fields including Academia (tenure track and non-tenure positions), Industry, and Clinical Practice. The program director supports fellows in their career paths with structured independent career development planning, networking opportunities, and meeting support for pursuing employment opportunities.
MAD-ID Training Program Highlight
This series highlights ID pharmacy training programs, including PGY2 ID residency and ID fellowship programs, who send trainees to the MAD-ID Annual Meeting. We provide an opportunity for program directors to give insights into their offerings that mean most to prospective trainees.
